I got connections! Not the kind that get you into nightclubs ahead of the line, but I'll take my connections any day.
I got thinking about my connections this week. Partly because I will soon be on vacation with one of my favorite connections, my wife Leanne. The other reason is that I'm not that comfortable flying. In my life, I have a strict "no freaking out" policy, so I tackle my fears head-on. I was also once afraid of water and became a triathlete partly to get over that. Now I LOVE the water, especially lakes.
Part of the deal with getting more comfortable on a plane is to find a sense of connectedness back on terra firma. This is something I learned from SOAR (which I highly recommend if you are at all fearful of flying). The best part is that I use this technique in other times in life. When I am racing triathlon or buried under a pile of work or whenever the stress level gets high, I focus on the people that really matter to me. My wife, my sons and my mom. I have mental pictures of my favorite times with all of them. This is what connects me back to reality.
After all, your loved ones are the reason you do most of what you do. The more time you spend "connected", the better. Even when you are miles away.
